Palermo will be twinned with Nicosia
The honorary consul of Cyprus for Sicily Sebastiano Provenzano met, in Cyprus, the mayor of Nicosia Constantinos Yiorkadjis. During the meeting, in agreement with the Mayor of Palermo Leoluca Orlando, formal practices were started for a twinning between the two cities.

During the mission, agreements were also made to promote the presence of Sicilian companies interested in investing in Cyprus, where the economy grows by 4 percent a year and is able to attract foreign investments in the construction, shipping, tourism sectors, and in the financial one as well.

“Palermo and Nicosia – says the Consul Provenzano – are similar cities in many ways and will have a mutual advantage in sharing their experiences and in increasing the relationships of cultural, economic and social exchange. Nicosia is a city in great development that is proving capable of introducing millennial innovation in its history. Numerous construction sites from the Elfteria Square by Zaha Hadid to the skyscrapers to the numerous urban redevelopment projects. This city, the only and the last in Europe to still be divided by a wall, is, in contrast to this anachronistic condition, really an example of dynamism and innovation “.
