A delegation of NYPD policemen will participate in the commemoration of the Italian-American policeman Joe Petrosino, on the day of his murder on 12 March 110 years ago. The commemorative day, scheduled for Tuesday, March 12, will start at 10 am in the Hall Petrosino in the former Hotel de France (Vicolo Sant’Uffizio 13, corner Piazza Marina), where Petrosino stayed until the day of the crime.
To welcome the guests of the event organized by the association Joe Petrosino Sicilia and supported by the regional councilor for Education and Professional Training, Roberto Lagalla, will be the extraordinary commissioner of the Ersu Giuseppe Amodei.
In addition ro the representatives of the Police Department of New York there will be delegations from the Joe Petrosino associations of Padula and New York. The meeting will be moderated by the journalist Alberto Samonà, and will be present, as well as the regional councilor for Education and Professional Training Roberto Lagalla and the extraordinary commissioner of the Ersu Giuseppe Amodei, Senator Stefano Candiani, undersecretary at the Ministry of the Interior; the vice president of the Sicilian Region Gaetano Armao; the president of the Sicilian Regional Assembly, Gianfranco Miccichè; the mayor of Palermo, Leoluca Orlando; the president of the association Joe Petrosino Sicilia, Anna Maria Corradini; the president of the international association Joe Petrosino Padula, Vincenzo La Manna; the president of the Joe Petrosino New York association, Bob Fonti. Also participating are Giuseppe Puleo and Francesco Quattrocchi, union leaders of the Siulp, a police trade union, as well as Raffaele Palma, president of the National Police Association of Palermo.
During the meeting, the anthropologist Rita Cedrini will present the II edition of the Associazione Joe Petrosino Sicilia Award, conferred this year to the artist Pippo Madè. A work donated by Madè and dedicated to the memory of Joe Petrosino, will be discovered after the deposition of a crown at the scene of the crime.
On February 18, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Department of Education and the Professional training, Ersu and the Joe Petrosino Sicilia association, aimed at enhancing the activities aimed at deepening the knowledge of the figure of the policeman killed by the mafia and to develop students’ expressive and communicative skills concerning legality topics.
