The Conservatory of Palermo celebrates 400 years

It is one of the oldest conservatory in Italy and in the world as well. A story that begins as a charitable institution to rip off the road abandoned children. They were taught crafts and trade, and to sing for alms. Francesco Cilea was also one of the directors of the conservatory. Many good musicians come from the “Vincenzo Bellini”. Today it has 1400 students and 147 teachers and you can study both traditional and contemporary music. The conservatory still works as a charity institution as long as it brings music to the needy and the detained. It also works with the schools to introduce children with music. From this year part of the artistic activity will take place at the recovered “Real Teatro Santa Cecilia”.
