Opening the “Visitors Center” at Teatro Massimo

It was inaugurated  the Visitors Center of  the City of Palermo inside the Teatro Massimo. The ceremony was attended, among others, the Mayor Leoluca Orlando, the superintendent of the Teatro Massimo, Francesco Giambrone, the Deputy Head of Cabinet, Licia Romano and Tourism Service Manager, Alfonsa Arena.

The opening of the Tourist Information Center was born from the specific request of the administration to increase the information on touristic offer in one of the most important monuments – the Teatro Massimo – famous all over the world, with thousands of visitors each year.

Based on these considerations, on December 20th, a Memorandum of Understanding between the City of Palermo and the Fondazione Teatro Massimo Tourism Service was signed to agree and regulate  a point of information for tourists, providing a link to the internet, brochures and maps of the city, hosted in the ticket office.

To ensure the assistance will be four Collaborators Professional Cultural Tourist, employees of the City of Palermo, who will alternate from 9.00 to 18.00. Simultaneously, it was scheduled to close the CIT  in via Cavour.

For the Mayor “is further confirmation that Palermo is a tourist town and the Teatro Massimo one of the most important attractions of our city. Tourists consider Teatro Massimo one of the reasons why to come to Palermo: in 2016 only came into this theater 250,000 paying visitors. Our choice is to not only to have the visitors center, but also to place them in symbolic places and attraction for tourists, such as Piazza Bellini – in the vicinity of the churches of San Cataldo and Martorana and Palazzo delle Aquile – or Cassaro Alto, in the heart of the Arab-Norman Unesco circuit and, today, even within the Teatro Massimo.

Applauded the initiative was expressed by Superintendent Giambrone, who stressed that it is “another important occasion of opening the city of theater, increasingly one crucial point and one of the obligatory cultural and tourist routes in Palermo” .
