The first Seabin LifeGate of Palermo, opened today at the Cala Porticciolo. It will collect the equivalent of 1 million plastic caps and 150 thousand plastic bags.

Best Western Italia announces the inauguration of the first Seabin LifeGate in Palermo.
Today at the Porticciolo della Cala the device that cleans the sea from the plastic has been officially lit by the Councilor of the Budget, of the Participates, Tributes and Heritage, Roberto D’Agostino and by the president of the Port System Authority of the western Sea of ​​Sicily, Pasqualino Monti, with Sara Digiesi, Chief Marketing Officer of Best Western Italy, Simona Roveda, Editorial Director and Communication of LifeGate, Giuseppe Todaro, President of Sicindustria Palermo and Piero La Mattina, Commander Ecological Boat ” Stella Maris.

According to the average operating estimates, the Seabin LifeGate collects 1.5 kg of debris per day for a total of 2 tons of waste corresponding to 150 thousand plastic bags, 130 thousand PET bottles of 0.5 to 1 million caps of plastic. However, the peculiarity of this device is its ability to capture invisible and invasive microplastics and microfibres.

In the coming months  two new installations are planned in as many ports throughout Italy to clean up our seas, a vital resource both for the public good and for tourism.
