New flight Palermo – New York

United Airlines United Airlines announced the new daily direct flight between Palermo Falcone Borsellino Airport (PMO) and New York / Newark Airport (EWR), starting from May 20th and for the entire 2020 summer season.
United, which has been operating in Italy since 1997, will be the first US company to connect the two cities. The flight will be operated with 767-300 aircraft.
The last connection with the Big Apple was in October 2017, the date of the last flight of the former Meridiana airline.
The United Arlines company hub is located in New York-Newark Liberty International.
“Another confirmation of the renewed attractiveness of Palermo on the international scene. Another confirmation of the fact that the airport and Gesap represent extraordinary resources for the strengthening of our international relations and for our territory – states Leoluca Orlando, mayor of Palermo – We trust that these direct international and international connections will continue to grow, helping to put Palermo at the center of a network that will serve to create a new economy not only related to tourism but also to investments and new markets as well”.
The American airport is about 23 kilometers from Manhattan and offers the fastest connections to many parts of the city, including the AirTrain service to Penn Station in the heart of Manhattan, with a journey time of less than thirty minutes. It also allows you to reach other tourist places like Canada, the Caribbean and Mexico.
The Palermo airport thus becomes the fifth Italian airport that United adds to its network of direct flights with Italy.
“We have been working for more than a year to land more intercontinental flights at Palermo airport – said Giovanni Scalia, managing director of Gesap, the management company of the Falcone Borsellino airport in Palermo – United Airlines was among the first companies to collect our invitation, and this certainly for the appeal of the Palermo area, for the great tourist appeal of the city. This is excellent news – concluded Scalia – the result of the international credibility of our structure and the meticulous work carried out by the general manager Natale Chieppa and the sales department “.
