Mayor meets a group of representatives from Malta


Mayor Leoluca Orlando received a group of representatives from the Republic of Malta, consisting of Mrs Vanessa Frazier, Ambassador to Italy of the Republic of Malta,Mr  Deo Debattista, Parliamentary Secretary of the Republic of Malta delegated to Health and Public Hygiene, Mr Olaf McKay, Head of Cabinet, Mrs Leanne Burnell, officer in the Cabinet for Culture and Valletta 2018, Mrs Kelly Peplow, spokeswoman. The delegation is visiting Palermo to define a cultural twin which, for 2018, will see Palermo’s Italian Capital of Culture and Valletta European Capital of Culture. The meeting was also attended by the municipal councilor Giulio Cusumano.

“The meeting with the representative of the Maltese Government for Culture, together with the Ambassador in Malta and with some of the economic operators both from Palermo and Malta, was an occasion to go on sharing artistic experiences, tourism and entrepreneurship that will find their realization in Palermo, with “Casa Malta”, a week of initiatives that will see the partecipation of operators, entrepreneurs and artists from Palermo, invited by the Maltese Government, to let them know the program of La Valletta 2018. Abd, also, the exchange of young Maltese and Sicilian artists, thanks to the commitment of the director of the Academy of Fine Arts, Mario Zito, according to a model already operating among Palermo artists, Dusseldorf, British, as well as many other cities in the world. ”

The Mayor, in welcoming Maltese representatives, finally reiterated that “Palermo is a city of welcome, and the Mediterranean is a” liquid continent “characterized by dialogue, peace and respect for human rights.”
