Tourism in Palermo in 2018. All parameters are positive and more favorable than the regional and national results

The Studies and Statistical Research Unit has published the issue of Statistics flash dedicated to official Istat data on tourism in Palermo in 2018.

“The figures show – says the Statistician Girolamo D’Anneo – that last year all the parameters relating to the tourism  in Palermo were positive and more favorable than the regional and national results. Among the main results, there is a growth in foreign tourists (+ 15.1% in terms of arrivals) greater than that of Italian tourists (+ 4.4%), and an increase in non-hotel businesses this year too higher than that of hotel businesses (in terms of arrivals + 22.3% against + 7.3%) “.

“These are extraordinary numbers – said the Mayor, Leoluca Orlando, who also is assessor for tourism – which confirm what we already knew: Palermo is a welcoming city known in the worldnot because of stereotypes than for the own reality today. A result achieved also thanks to international promotion and to being, according to official Istat data, the safest among the big Italian cities.

Tourism is confirmed as a potential engine of our development, but it is already a consolidated reality today, also thanks to the big spin-off that it generates in the sectors of mobility, catering and commerce.
These are extraordinary results that also say we can do better, and for this reason, the Administration is working more and more, as well as for the overall promotion of the image of Palermo in Italy and abroad, for the seasonal adjustment of flows, with campaigns aimed at those who choose the low season for their trips ”.
