International Rostrum of Composers and Conservatorio Vincenzo Bellini

 

 

For the first time Palermo will host Rostrum+ which is the newest project of International Rostrum of Composers, coming from International Music Council, agengy of Unesco for music, founded in 1949.

Rostrum+ is a review of new music , performing new composers and musicians.

From 16 to 19 may 30 radio stations from all over the world will introduce 60 new compositions made by 60 composers in the last 5 years.

The honorary guest (May 19th) of this edition of the IRC will be Salvatore Sciarrino, one of the leading live composers in Italy, whose works are among the most executed all over the world, which will be interviewed by Stephen Adams of Australian radio ABC .
The final conference of the 19th will be attended by Leoluca Orlando, Mayor of Palermo, Daniele Ficola, Director of Conservatory Vincenzo Bellini, Francescantonio Pollice, Vice President CIDIM, Pascale Labrie Head of the European Broadcasting Union.

The first edition of the cCompetition took place in 1954 and saw the participation of delegates from the national broadcasters of Germany, France, Belgium and Switzerland.
Since then, until 2002, the Rostrum sessions were held at the Unesco headquarters in Paris with the exception of the 2002, hosted in Amsterdam. Since 2003 the event is held every two years at Radio France and in the intermediate years in a different European headquarters.
From 1991 to 2003, the composer of the selected opera received the UNESCO Mozart medal.
Winners of the prizes were also Luciano Berio in 1953, Henri Dutilleux in 1955, Benjamin Britten in 1961, Luigi Nono in 1962, Töru Takemitsu in 1963 and 1965, György Ligeti in 1969.
