Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana and her visit to Palermo

The Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana in Italy,  Mme Eudora Hilda Quartey – Koranteng, ended her mission in Palermo after meeting the Ghanaian community residing in the city and matching the local authorities, accompanied by the Honorary Consul, lawyer Francesco Campagna.

In recent days, in Palermo the staff of the consular section of the Embassy, ​​led by the Consul General Mr. Jonathan Magnussen, offered assistance to Ghanaian citizens who requested services generally available at the Rome office: more than 250 people went to the Parish of San Nicolò all’Albergheria, where the consular operations took place.

On the evening of Sunday 21 July, at the Santa Chiara Center, the Ghanaian community welcomed the delegation in a meeting organized by the “Ghana Association – Sicily” chaired by Alexander Osei Minkah. On Monday, July 22nd, instead, the meeting with the Mayor Leoluca Orlando, at Villa Niscemi: Ambassador Quartey – Koranteng spoke about how Ghana presents itself today in the global context with an innovative approach, which exceeds the request for help and proposes as an equal partner; furthermore, they discussed the future collaborations with the city of Palermo, starting from the twinning with the Ghanaian city of Sekondi – Takoradi, which is starting now. The Mayor confirmed his interest in implementing dialogue with Ghana, confirming the esteem and sympathy traditionally reserved for Ghanaians residing in Palermo.

The Consul General Magnussen and the Honorary Consul Campaign then met with Quaestor Renato Cortese, who confirmed the climate of serene and active collaboration with the Ghanaian community. The Ambassador also met with Prefect Antonella De Miro, and they discussed about the fruitful collaboration between the institutions and the expressions of civil society which brings to the integration of the Ghanaian community in the city,

The day ended with a visit to the Presidency of the Sicilian Region, where the delegation met the vice president Gaetano Armao who represented the high interest of the Region to start an intense collaboration with Ghana especially in the sectors of agribusiness and Alternative Energy , with the involvement of Sicilian university poles. At the end of the visit, Ambassador Quartey – Koranteng said she was extremely satisfied with the meetings and the warm welcome that was reserved for her and that bodes well for a future of collaboration.
